Ingredients

  • 1 loaf challah bread, cubed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl (4-quart), whisk together 4 large eggs, 2 cups milk, 1/2 cup white sugar, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon salt until combined.
  3. Place 1 loaf challah bread (cubed) in a 9x13-inch baking dish, then pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, gently pressing down to soak the cubes. Let it sit for 10 minutes to absorb.
  4. Drizzle 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter over the top of the mixture.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes until puffed and golden brown. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean.
  6. Let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving with powdered sugar and maple syrup.
