Ingredients

  • 60g peanuts
  • 40g black sesame
  • 10g white sesame (optional)
  • 50g sugar
  • 120g glutinous flour
  • 18g corn starch
  • 15g coconut oil
  • 170g milk
  • shredded coconut or heated glutinous flour (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Toast the peanuts, black sesame, and white sesame (if using) in a dry pan until aromatic. Allow them to cool slightly.
  2. Grind the toasted nuts and seeds into a coarse powder using a food processor or mortar and pestle. Mix in the sugar to create the filling. Set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous flour, corn starch, coconut oil, and milk. Stir until smooth and lump-free.
  4. Transfer the mochi dough mixture to a heatproof bowl and steam it for 15-20 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the dough is fully cooked and translucent.
  5. Allow the mochi dough to cool slightly, then knead it until smooth and pliable.
  6. Divide the dough into 9-10 equal portions. Flatten each portion into a disc and place a small amount of the peanut sesame filling in the center. Seal the edges and roll into a ball.
  7. Coat each mochi ball in shredded coconut or heated glutinous flour for a finished look.
  8. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to a day.
