Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 for best flavor and juiciness)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, sliced
  • Pickles, for topping
  • Ketchup and mustard, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined; avoid overworking the meat.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
  3. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the patties on the grill or in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  4. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and close the grill lid or cover the skillet to melt the cheese.
  5. While the burgers are cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
  6. Assemble your burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, adding the cheesy patty, followed by tomato slices, red onion, and pickles. Top with ketchup and mustard, then add the top bun.
