Delicious Turon Recipe: Crispy Banana Lumpia
This turon recipe features crispy, golden brown banana rolls filled with sweet plantains and caramelized sugar, perfect for a delightful snack or...
Ingredients
- 6 ripe bananas (preferably saba or plantains)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 12 spring roll wrappers
- Cooking oil (for frying)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup jackfruit (optional, sliced thinly)
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- Water (for sealing wrappers)
Instructions
- Peel the bananas and slice them lengthwise into halves. If using, slice the jackfruit thinly as well.
- In a shallow dish, sprinkle the brown sugar evenly and mix in the cinnamon if using, then set aside.
- Take a spring roll wrapper and place it on a clean surface with a corner pointing towards you. Place a banana half (and jackfruit if using) on the wrapper, then sprinkle some brown sugar over it.
- Fold the bottom corner of the wrapper over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll it tightly to enclose the filling completely. Use a little water to seal the edge of the wrapper.
- Repeat the process until all bananas are wrapped. Heat cooking oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until hot.
- Carefully place the wrapped turon in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes on each side. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- While still hot, roll the fried turon in the remaining brown sugar to coat them for added sweetness and crunch.
- Serve warm and enjoy your homemade turon as a delightful snack or dessert!
