Ingredients
- 400g paneer, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 200g plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
- 2 tablespoons garam masala
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 medium onions, finely chopped
- 400g canned tomatoes, crushed
- 150ml heavy cream
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl (4-quart), combine 200g plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste, 2 tablespoons garam masala, 1 tablespoon ground coriander, 1 tablespoon red chili powder, 1 teaspoon turmeric powder, and 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Mix until well combined to create a marinade.
- Add 400g paneer cubes to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate.
- Preheat a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and heat until shimmering.
- Remove the marinated paneer from the fridge and gently grill the cubes in the hot skillet for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and slightly charred. Remove the paneer and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil and 2 medium chopped onions. Sauté until the onions are soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the crushed canned tomatoes (400g) to the skillet, stirring to combine. Season with salt to taste and cook for 10-15 minutes until the mixture is thick and fragrant.
- Bring the heat to low and slowly stir in 150ml heavy cream. Allow it to simmer gently for 5 minutes, creating a smooth, velvety sauce.
- Finally, add the grilled paneer to the sauce, mix gently, and cook for an additional 5 minutes to combine the flavors. Adjust seasoning as necessary.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
